Eyelash viper

The Eyelash viper (bothriechis schlegelii) has its home in the South of Mexico, Venezuela and Equador and its preferred diet consists of frogs and lizards. As a viper living on a tree it has a strongly developed gripping tail which it winds round branches to support its hold. It belongs to the Grubenottern and is able to find its prey even in complete darkness by the radiation of heat it emits with the help of its sense organ situated between its nostrils and mouth. Its eyelash-like scale appendices above its eyes are also very remarkable. The Eyelash viper is lightly spotted and can be found in many colour variations also in the open country.
